For the money you cannot beat these Senville units. I installed one of these for my best friend about a year ago and one for my mother last week. As with most HVAC quality of installation is KEY to longevity and performance. In Turbo cooling mode I measured one of the units putting out 13,800k BTU vs. the rated 12,000k BTU which is great. My friend mentions regularly how this 12k Senville destroys the 14.5k portable hose exhaust unit he had before it. The Senville is also about 4 times quieter than the portable. The quality and price that Senville is offering is impressive to me. If I did not already have a decent 36k BTU 16 SEER central heat pump on my personal home I would probably give the Senville 36K BTU (SENDC-36HF-16) a shot even though I cannot find any reviews on it. Again, the quality on these for the money has really impressed me.I like the idea of the Senville units over the Mr. Cool as the Senville is tried and time tested vs. the precharged quick connect Mr. Cool line sets that in my mind introduce a few really unknown variables. I am not an HVAC technician but I am a mechanical engineer who has geeked out on HVAC, got my EPA 608 license, and purchased some HVAC tools.Tips:1) Pressure test the unit with nitrogen before pulling a vacuum. I know it is tempting to skip this step and not deal with purchasing or renting a nitrogen tank with regulator but if you really want to ensure you will not have leaks in the future it is the way to go. The dry nitrogen also helps remove moisture introduced to the hermetic system during installation prior to pulling a vacuum. I tested with 300psi for 30 minutes and found a tiny leak on one of the flare fittings that I corrected by giving it a little extra torque. I also use Nylog Blue on the male tips of the flares.2) I use a micron gage when pulling a vacuum I know they are expensive (~$200) but its worth it to know you are getting all the moisture out of the lines as that is what leads to decreased output and premature failure on so many of these. I pulled down to 213 microns and did a 30 minute decay test. It only rose to 219 microns which is very good.3) It probably does not matter but I like to release the refrigerant slowly to avoid any pressure spikes. I also like to back out the valves all the way and then turn them back in about 1/16th of a turn so it is open but not sitting on the hard stop.4) Do not vertically coil the line set behind the unit. This can produce and oil trap that can degrade the performance and lifespan of the unit. If you need to coil the line set do so horizontally. On the one I installed in my mothers house I cut the line set to 7.5 feet. Recommended minimum is 10 feet so I recovered 0.7oz of the factory refrigerant charge. Senville Tech Support Chat wasn’t the most helpful on this but I can understand why. I deviated from the installation recommendations and that is on me. I did check vapor line pressures in cooling with the unit on regular and Turbo afterwards and everything looked good.
KEEPS ME COOL IN THE TEXAS HEAT!!!Unit- 12,000 BTU 120V Senville Mini Split ACUse- Climate Control a 700 square foot garage on the Texas Gulf CoastPerformance- Great! I track my humidity and temperature with a separate device for confirmation of results. It easily hangs at 70F (21C) when it’s 95F (35C) outside and less than 40% humidity when it’s in the 80% humidity outside (impressive considering I have gaps in the garage door I still have to insulate)Ease of Installation- Moderately easy. I watched A LOT of youtube videos. The same manufacturer that produces this brand produces a number of others, so you can find lots of videos that work for your unit. You could do it as a one person job, but there a couple of times where I asked for a second set of hands to make it easier.- Setting up the electrical was the toughest part and you may want an electrician to help. I figured it out, but it did take a while and a bunch more youtube videos.Syncing with Wifi – This did not go so well for me. I couldn’t get it to sync with the app after 5 attempts. It synced with Amazon Alexa on the first try. That’s great, but it’s not the system I primarily use for home automation. That said, I put in my schedule for it via the Alexa App and it works fine. I almost took off a star for this, but it still does everything I want and does it well.Overall Impression – One month into ownership, I wish I had purchased it sooner. It really is a game changer when I have to work in the garage. Happy with the performance and functionality.Update January 2025:We had a polar vortex that made it all the way down here to the Texas Gulf Coast. We are NOT built for freezing temperatures. I turned on the heating mode and it managed to keep my garage at very reasonable temperatures. What does that mean?…It got into the teens and my garage stayed at the 60 degrees I set it at.It’s amazing in the Texas summers and made it through the worst cold snap in 40 years.I LOVE it!!! I have two friends that have now purchased and both love it!
Amazing product with awesome results easy to install
What a great product. Great for heating and cooling. Very quiet, almost like white noise. Remote control makes it simple to use.
I replaced a 20+ year old HVAC system that was sending me to the poor house just to run it a few hours per month, ($300/month!!). I have a small office with a small warehouse attached but only heat/cool the office.I bought the 9k BTU/120 v unit for the job.The install was very simple, the directions well written and all the parts were included.I can barely here it run, it cools nicely even with a non-insulated 4’x4′ window and glass door facing the sun during the summer. I’ve only used the heat a couple of times but with the same positive results. My electric bill now runs about $50/month! (Yeah I was getting screwed by Entergy Arkansas since they replaced my old meter with a “smart” meter and my bill tripled!)I’ll buy the 18k unit if I decide to cool the warehouse area.
Excellent
What a deal. These things are the best. It works great at heating and cooling my 500 sq ft tiny home. It is very functional, works quickly, is very quiet and very cheap to run. I’m very happy with this purchase.
A nice unit. Easy to install. Pumps out Cold Air & Hot with ease.
I enjoyed installing this and it’s worked out very well. We’re using it to keep the garage cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It’s doing a very good job. Installation was straightforward. Proper evacuation and leak-free joints are essential. The Alexa app is good enough but the WiFi one would have been better.
Great Canadian design and product!
My husband and I are landlords and have been slowly replacing our old cooling units with these as the old ones die. We’re really impressed with the quality and ease of installation. Designed in Quebec, built in China. We’ve installed 7 so far and are thoroughly pleased with the product.
Excellent product for the price
Received packages ahead of schedule in good shape. Brought out to my Rv and installed the head, electrical and lineset. Used my 20 amp washer circuit as power , ran some 12/2 into a disconnect box, put 150lbs nitrogen on circuit to pressure test it for 30 minutes, sucked air out with vacuum pump, released refrigerant, am testing as I write this.Unit works extremely well, gonna be a bonus with the heat pump function. I’ve been doing HVAC for 35 years and this unit outperforms some of the Lennox products I’ve installed and at at a fraction of the cost, will submit another review on the heating side. At least now I’m prepared for the Okanagan summers in an Rv.New update as of December 12/24, been running unit on heat mode now for 2 months with outside temperatures of-2c, unit pumps out 74 Fahrenheit all day long, goes into defrost every 30 minutes or so. Very pleased with unit, will have to see if they sell a 2 zone unit in 110volt
